What is blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)?

Eyelid surgery is a minor procedure that aims to remove excess skin from the eyelids (upper or lower) for primarily cosmetic and sometimes functional reasons.

In addition to the excess skin, sometimes excess fat is present (often in the lower eyelids). In this case, the excess fat is removed with or without the excess skin.

The residual scars are very inconspicuous. It is also possible to remove excess fat from the lower eyelids without scarring.

How are these interventions carried out

Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation. This is a day surgery procedure.

Recovery takes about 7-10 days. It will be necessary to avoid significant physical exertion during the first three weeks after surgery.

Some degree of swelling and bruising is expected during the first week, and varies from person to person. Postoperative pain is not very severe and will be easily relieved with basic medication.
